Rotaract
Rotaract has originally begun as a Rotary International youth program in 1968. Now it and has grown into a major Rotary-Partner organization. The name “Rotaract” stands for “Rotary in Action”. In Germany, there are over 190 active Rotaract Clubs with more than 4.000 members, ages 18 to 32. Rotaract is based on three main pillars: Learn, Help, Celebrate. Each club holds formal meetings, usually every two weeks, featuring speakers, discussions or visits to companies and fellow clubs (Learn). Club members get together on fixed days for service work and organize a wide range of social events in order to support people in need, both in their communities and around the world (Help). Frequent events and parties give members the opportunity to build friendships with like-minded people from all over the world (Celebrate).
Rotaract Clubs in Frankfurt
Frankfurt is home to two of the biggest Rotaract Clubs (RAC) in Germany: RAC Frankfurt am Main (founded in 1981) and RAC Frankfurt/Main International (founded in 2012). Each club is diverse, community-based groups that consist of undergraduate as well as graduate students and young professionals of various fields ranging from finance, IT, engineering, to real estate, fine arts, and many others. The two clubs engage in various service projects: for example, by hosting a breakfast for homeless people in Frankfurtonce a month. Also, both clubs participate in a 24 hours – Charity Run in order to support two organizations working with disabled people. Furthermore, they support a global Rotaract project to purchase Portable Aqua Units for Lifesaving (PAUL), which will be installed in rural areas in Mexico.
